Audi is teasing us now with an exclusive edition of the 2017 R8 V10 plus, that features laser high beams. Yes, it’s Audi’s first production version of this new technology in the U.S., too. Now, good guys like Tony Stark and super baddies like Dr. Evil can both have matching over the top sports cars. To be fair, we’ve known Audi was prepping its advanced laser headlights for the US market, but that doesn’t make their arrival any less exciting.
The exclusive edition of 25 R8s will come with full LED headlights with a laser high beam module. The latest light tech will make its debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show this month. Aside from the signature blue light of the laser headlights, the laser beam pattern is activated when the special edition R8 is traveling at least 40 mph. The laser rays supplement the LED high beam and project a low and wide beam of light on the road (or rave) ahead. The special edition R8 also gets an exclusive Quantum Gray paint job, a titanium black-optic exterior package, gloss anthracite (coal) front grille, and 20-inch wheels in a high-gloss “coal” finish.
