Ford Reveals Rally-Inspired Van

If you’re tired of never completing your deliveries on time, worry no more. Ford and the M-Sport World Rally Team have the right thing for you. It is called the Ford MS-RT Transit Custom, and it’s what happens when a van loses a bit of weight and takes up running.

The MS-RT is based on the regular Transit Custom, but it has undergone a facelift, which includes a full front bumper and grille replacement with integrated factory fog lamps, extreme front diffuser, sills, wide body arch extensions, rear diffuser and rear spoiler, as well as a smattering of stickers to complete the look.

Volvo Will Dump Diesel Starting With Next S60 Sedan

Volvo will not offer a diesel in its new S60 sedan, which will be released this spring. The new S60 will be available with a range of four-cylinder gasoline engines as well as two versions of its gasoline-electric plug-in hybrid powertrain.

This move comes as Volvo accelerates its shift toward electrified powertrains and away from diesels, which accounted for almost 80 percent of its sales in Europe last year. Diesel sales have taken a hit in Europe because of potential bans on older, more polluting cars with the powertrain and the high cost of improvements to ensure that new diesel vehicles comply with tougher European emissions regulations.

2019 Ford Everest – 2.0 Biturbo Diesel: a 10-Speed Car

Ford has unveiled an updated version of its Everest SUV in Australia, bringing a mildly revised look and extra kit. The big change, though, is the introduction of the 2.0-liter twin-turbocharged four-cylinder diesel engine which was first seen on the Ranger Raptor.

The new EcoBlue mill serves up 213 PS and 500 Nm of torque from just 1,750 Nm. It is paired to a Getrag 10R80 10-speed automatic transmission with a wider ratio span that improves refinement and performance, on and off road. Towing capacity has also increased slightly, from 3,000 to 3,100 kg. This engine and transmission combination results in a combined fuel consumption figure of as low as 6.9 liters per 100km on the Trend 4×2. The old 3.2-liter TDCi Duratorq five e-pot turbodiesel remains a standard fitment on the base Ambiente and Trend.

Ford Resumes F-150 Production After Extraordinary Efforts

Despite a massive fire at the Meridian Magnesium Products facility in Eaton Rapids, Michigan, Ford’s Dearborn Truck Plant will resume F-150 production on Friday, May 17th. Ford officials say that the supply chain for the Super Duty is also restored, which should lead to production restarting at the Kentucky Truck Plant by Monday, May 21st. The Kansas City Assembly Plant is also scheduled to resume work by May 21st.

After the May 2nd fire, Ford teams addressed safety concerns and restored electricity as quickly as they could. Their goal was to retrieve and relocate tools so production could resume, and the impact of the stalled plants could be reduced to minimum. The teams removed 19 dies (tools that are used to cut and shape material using a press) from Meridian’s fire-damaged plant. They moved an 87,000 lbs. die from Eaton Rapids, Michigan to Nottingham, U.K. in 30 hours, while in normal circumstances this procedure would take 10 days.

2019 Subaru Crosstrek PHEV: Company's First Plug-In Hybrid

Subaru announced its first plug-in hybrid vehicle, and it will come in the form of its third-best-selling car, the Crosstrek. This is fitting in a couple ways: it’s a quick selling vehicle and the Crosstrek was the model used for Subaru’s first conventional hybrid, introduced for the 2014 model year. The company did not reveal any photos yet.

The Crosstrek PHEV will also have something in common with the Subaru BRZ in the sense that it will benefit from Toyota’s technology. The company said that the hybrid system comes from Toyota. The crossover, like many other PHEVs, will be capable of driving in full-EV mode and in conventional hybrid mode. The company hasn’t announced yet how much range it will have.

Keyless Cars Caused Dozens of Deaths in the US

A report made by New York Times found that dozens of people have been poisoned by carbon monoxide since 2006 after failing to turn off the ignition on their keyless cars. More exactly, 28 of them died and 45 others suffered injuries.

More than half of the vehicles sold annually in the US now have keyless ignitions. The keyless ignition system consists of a device that is carried by the driver, allowing him to start the car with a press of a button linked to the fob. If the key fob is not detected the car will not start. However, if the car has been started it will continue to run even if the device is removed from the vehicle.

Toyota Presents Production Hydrogen Fuel Cell Bus Sora

Toyota began in Japan production and sales of its hydrogen fuel cell buses called Sora that share technology with Mirai. Same as with other fuel cell vehicles, production volume is very small, Toyota announced that 100 units will be delivered in the Tokyo metropolitan area by 2020 for the Olympic games.

Sora is equipped with two FC stacks 114 kW each that provide electricity for the two 113 kW AC synchronous electric motors. For the small drive battery, Toyota still uses NiMH. The 34.5 feet long bus fits 79 people (22 seated, 56 standing, and the driver). The range on 10 tanks of hydrogen (600 liters working at 70 Mpa nominal pressure) is comparable to conventional buses.

Audi Plans To Launch 20 Electrified Models By 2025

At its annual meeting, Audi announced an ambitious plan to make 20 new electric vehicles by 2025, most of them battery electrics. The car maker says that it will invest $47.6 billion into electrified cars, a new app platform for its cars, a new fleet of autonomous vehicles, and creating sustainable factories. The investment represents about two years of revenue for the company.

As a first step, Audi announced that it will reveal the production version of its new e-Tron electric SUV on August 30. It should have 300-mile range and slots between the size of the current Q5 and Q7. It will be one of the fastest charging cars on the market. The automaker also plans to introduce a high-performance e-Tron GT sedan and a compact car in 2020, which will be followed by two more electric SUVs in 2021. In total, Audi is planning to sell 800,000 electrified vehicles by 2025.

Pope’s Huracan sold out for $861K

Pope’s Huracan sold out for $861K: We knew that Pope’s Huracan was set to be sold at RM Sotheby’s Monaco sale, but who would’ve thought it would be sold at such an incredibly good price?

The supercar fetched an impressive $861,575. That was a lot higher than early speculations, given the cost of a standard, non-holy Lamborghini Huracan. Besides being blessed by the world’s top Catholic, this Huracan also boasts a number of exclusive features fitted by Ad Personam, Lamborghini’s bespoke division that deals with special options and one-off commissions.

Waymo won’t be spending millions on assembly plants

Waymo won’t be spending millions on assembly plants: Everyone’s wondering what would a Google-branded vehicle be like. And it turns out that Waymo won’t be spending millions spending billions on assembly plants and the development of its own vehicles and platforms. The company is partnering with automakers to use their cars and trucks to showcase its technology brand and develop a lineup of vehicles.

The brand-building approach takes a page from the old Saleen and Shelby works, tuners and stylists of limited-edition, high-performance vehicles based on Ford Mustangs and pickups. But it's a more democratic version of that concept. The idea is that a Waymo-branded vehicle can be whatever you want it to be: a minivan or a sedan, an EV or an SUV.

DS Announces Its New Flagship With Spectacular Design

Since it became a standalone brand, DS has been trying to distance itself from Peugeot and Citroën by transforming into a luxury brand with an exclusive design and more premium touches. The arrivals of the new models, such as the DS 7 Crossback and the DS 3 Crossbackstrengthen the presence of the company in the automotive spectrum, but what DS really needs is a proper flagship model.

DS 8 should arrive sometime in 2020, and it will rival with BMW 5 SeriesAudi A6, and the Mercedes E-Class. However, unlike these three, the new jewel of the DS range will not take the shape of a conventional sedan. Instead, the designers at DS are going for a more stylish fastback, which will hopefully have a few things in common with the stunning 2012 Citroen Numero 9 concept we display here.

Car Companies Started Offering Monthly Subscriptions for Drivers

About a third of the 17 million cars expected to be sold in the U.S. this year are leased. The rest of them are purchased. However, there’s a new option for drivers coming in 2018 – car subscriptions. It is addressed to people that do not want to own a car but want to have access to a range of cars whenever they want.

So, by paying a monthly fee to access a variety of vehicles they can change up when they want. The flat fee starts from $400 and gets to as much as $3,700, depending on the company, and most often comes with insurance, maintenance, roadside assistance, pickup, and drop-off. And in most cases, the subscription can be ended at any time. Today the vehicle subscription is in the 100,000 to 150,000 range, but it has a potential in the next 12 to 18 months to grow into millions.

Rolls-Royce Cullinan might be the best SUV ever

Rolls-Royce Cullinan might be the best SUV ever: Meet and greet the new SUV Rolls-Royce Cullinan. The product of a car-buying customer demand for a high-riding, rough stuff-capable machine that somehow encapsulates the finest airs and graces of Edwardian-era Great Britain and teams them not only with the outstanding technical prowess developed through the 2010s, but also its most infectious and omnipresent design trends.

The Cullinan is a response to that; a conscious effort to keep Rolls’ products current in a world where everyone from the minimum wage worker to the wealthiest oil baron wants an SUV. Persevering with saloons, however lovely, was the wrong choice.

Auto Shows Looking for New Strategies to Stay Relevant

Auto Shows Looking for New Strategies to Stay Relevant: In 2011 BMW had unveiled its M5 sports sedan at the Frankfurt auto show. The car had to win the attention within 50 other production vehicles debuting at the event. Six years later, the automaker decides to choose a different way of promoting its new generation M5. The car has been revealed in a video game.

BMW's strategy, unthinkable only a few years ago, illustrates how the digital era is transforming the way automakers introduce vehicles. The shift has left many of the big international auto shows grasping for answers as brands increasingly connect with consumers through Instagram and YouTube instead.

Uber's 'Skyport' Plans Look Like Science Fiction

Uber’s flying taxi service plans to launch its first takeoffs by 2023. One major problem, though, is that UberAir taxis need access to the sky and a place to land. That’s where Skyports will be useful. These will be special areas localized specifically for launching, landing, and customer pickup, and they look very futuristic.

In the second day of Uber’s Elevate Summit 2018, the company revealed concepts for its air taxi ports. Even if the project is in an early development stage, Uber plans to support over 4,000 passengers per hour for each Skyport. Initial blueprints come from Corgan, an architecture firm that wants to transform urban air mobility with a system that they call Connect, and it should be able to support up to 1,000 Uber eVTOLs (Electric Vertical Take-Off and Landing) each hour.

BMW Recalls 300,000 Cars That Risk Stalling

Hundred of thousands of BMW owners found out that their cars may have the same fault as the one that caused a death in a crash in 2016. The carmaker issued a recall which affects around 312, 00 UK vehicles after a BBC investigation showed the scale of the problem.

The affected models are BMW 1 Series, 3 Series, Z4 and X1 diesel and petrol models that were made between March 2007 and August 2011. Narayan Gurung died on Christmas Day 2016 when he crashed into a tree in Hampshire while swerving to avoid a BMW which stalled due to an electrical fault. An investigation by BBC Watchdog, though, found out that the issue could be in a larger number of vehicles that those covered by the original recall of 36,410 vehicles in 2017.

Tesla's New Promo Shows a Mystery Car

Tesla's New Promo Shows a Mystery CarTesla has released a nice glossy video about all the cool stuff it’s been spending all that cash out. This includes a decent look at the futuristic interior of the Roadster (1min 5sec mark), some slick footage of the Gigafactory, and most interesting of all, a mystery car partly hidden under a sheet (15sec).

Naturally, this has sent the Internet into speculation overdrive. Is it the incoming Model Y? Is it a revamped Model S? Is Tesla trolling us all as a distraction technique?

Newer Cars Are Much Safer Than Old Cars According to the NHTSA Report

Newer Cars Are Much Safer Than Old Cars According to the NHTSA Report: That’s not a secret that new cars are much safer than old car, but what we did not know is by how much. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration just released a report highlighting the added safety of newer cars and trucks over older cars and trucks, and attaching real data to an otherwise assumed theory is always a good idea.

Here are some of the most powerful data points worth seeing:

  • 55 percent: Occupants fatally injured in vehicles built prior to 1984
  • 53 percent: Occupants fatally injured in vehicles built between 1985 and 1992
  • 46 percent: Occupants fatally injured in vehicles built between 1993 and 1997
  • 42 percent: Occupants fatally injured in vehicles built between 1997 and 2002
  • 36 percent: Occupants fatally injured in vehicles built between 2002 and 2007
  • 31 percent: Occupants fatally injured in vehicles built between 2008 and 2012
  • 26 percent: Occupants fatally injured in vehicles built between 2013 and 2017

Jeep Crusader Rendering Looks Even More Rugged Than Wrangler

Rendering artist Appu Koshy imagined a pretty rugged truck for the Jeep range. He named it the Crusader and though it may share some details with the Wrangler aesthetically, it’s still a tough, body-on-frame vehicle built to take on anything.

The designer says that it’s an adventure pickup truck for the North American auto market. And if to look at styling alone, it is hard to disagree. The concept is aggressive looking, but maintains most of the distinctive Jeep signature cues, the seven-slat grille being the most important of them. The headlights are sleek, the body stays on a set of all-terrain wheels, the fascia-mounted winch and roof-mounted fog lights give power to its off-road credentials.

Ford Suspends F-150 Production After Fire At Supplier

Ford Motor Co. said that it will halt production of its top-selling F-150 and Super Duty pickup trucks at some of its U.S. plants following a fire at a Michigan plant that produces instrument panels.

The truck side of Ford’s Kansas City Assembly plant has been suspended due to parts shortage. This means that about 3,600 workers are idled with no date set for reopening the plant. And the Dearborn Truck plant in Michigan is getting closed too. That plant has 4,000 employees. In addition, F-Series Super Duty production is suspended at the Kentucky Truck Plant in Louisville. Ford said that it will continue Super Duty production at its Ohio Assembly Plant in Avon Lake.

Aston Martin's luxury sub-unit works on an all-electric SUV

Aston Martin's luxury sub-unit works on an all-electric SUV: As many of you already know, Aston Martin has a new sub-unit which is gonna produce exclusively luxury carsLagonda. The new all-electric SUV from Lagonda will arrive in 2021. There are no concrete details about the car available yet, but we do know that the car will feature styling that’s an "evolution" of the Vision Concept that was shown at the Geneva motor show back in March.

That car was shown as a foretaste of what could come from a revitalized Lagonda brand, which has shown concept cars in recent years but hasn’t had a proper production run since 1989 when the Lagonda sedan was canned. A limited-edition Taraf sedan was hand-built by Aston Martin in 2014 and sold for $1 million, initially only to Middle Eastern customers.

Toyota's profit increased 43%

Toyota's profit increased 43%: The profit of the Japanese automakerToyota has increased 43% in the latest quarter as cost-cutting, lower selling outlays and falling warranty expenses offset unfavorable foreign exchange rates and helped the automaker to have a record full-year net income.

Operating profit rose to 629.6 billion yen ($5.93 billion) in the carmaker’s fiscal fourth quarter ended March 31, while net income advanced 21 percent to 480.8 billion yen ($4.53 billion). Revenue rose 1.9 percent to 7.58 trillion yen ($71.36 billion). Global retail sales increased 2.2 percent to 2.6 million vehicles in the January-March period, including results from its Daihatsu small-car subsidiary and truck-making affiliate Hino. Worldwide wholesale volume declined 1.8 percent to 2.3 million.

Honda Urban EV Looks Even Cuter in Production Sheet Metal

Honda Urban EV concept made its debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 2017, now we can imagine it wearing production clothing. This concept previews what Urban EV can become if Honda will decide to build it.

This concept uses most of the elements found on the original concept, including a unique headlight and grille design, boxy proportions, and retro-inspired cues. Unlike the initial concept, though, this one is more production friendly with new wheels, standard halogen light fixtures, and fog lights.

Nissan will gradually withdraw from diesel car market in Europe

Japanese car manufacturer Nissan will gradually lower the number of diesel cars that it sells in Europe reducing it to zero. This is a further sign of the weakening demand for this type of cars as customers worry about tax rises, bans, and restrictions related to diesel in many countries.

A spokeswoman from Nissan said that there would be a gradual withdrawal of diesel vehicles in Europe. A source last month had said that Nissan would cut hundreds of jobs at its Sunderland plant, which is Britain’s biggest car factory. The car making industry is facing a global regulatory crackdown on diesel emissions and is trying to adjust their business. A big part of this is investing in electric cars.

Lamborghini Huracan Spyder by DS

Lamborghini Huracan Spyder by DS: We don’t think that Lamborghini Huracan Spyder needs to be tuned up. This supercar is already one of the best existing today, so why would someone try to do it? Well, there is a team in Switzerland that decided to add some well-placed upgrades, and honestly, they did a great job!

DS of Switzerland’s take on the Italian supercar steers clear of unnecessary decoration, focusing on mods that enhance the natural beauty of the car. When you have something as good-looking as the Huracan, something as simple as suspension lowering, most likely usingNovitec parts, doubles the visual impact of the whole thing.

Better Cost Controls for Auto Dealers in 2018

Better Cost Controls for Auto Dealers in 2018:

The average U.S. light-vehicle dealership managed their fixed operations department very well, considering their final repair and costs figures. In 2017, total repair orders written by that average dealership were flat, and so was the total parts inventory it carried — after both had risen at a double-digit clip the year before.

That dealership also added more technicians — with the total rising to 19 per store from 16 in 2016 and 15 in 2015 — which helped to boost total parts and service sales, despite the repair-order slowdown. In addition, the total parts and service revenue per repair order for warranty work continued to outpace that for customer-pay work.

VW Golf GTI TCR Prototype Will Debut Next Week in Austria

Wörthersee is the first Volkswagen GTI meetup in the world. It will start in a few days in a mall town in Austria. It’s an event that’s been embraced by Volkswagen as much as its fans. This kind o events usually bring us some pretty nice concept cars like a Porsche-powered VW Type 2 or the bonkers mid-engine VW GTI W12.

This year is the turn of the new VW Golf GTI TCR Prototype, a near-production ready hot hatch which will go into production this fall. Its name comes from the GTI TCR race car. The production version is going to be powered by turbocharged inline-four making 286 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque. This is only six horsepower short of the VW Golf R. This power is sent to the wheels through a seven-speed DSG dual-clutch transmission.

Tesla Blames Bosch for Model S Recall

Tesla has issued a voluntary recall for around 123,000 early made Model S sedans due to complaints from some owners about corroding power-steering bolts that are exposed regularly to calcium or magnesium road salts. These salts are used in cold climates usually.

The recall announcement noted that there have been no accidents or injuries caused by this problem, and the recall was issued as a precautionary measure. The voluntary recall relates to Model S sedans that were manufactured previous to April 2016. Model S sedans manufactured after this date seem to be unaffected. The bolts, that were manufactured by German supplier Bosch, can corrode after contacting in cold weather with road salt. Some Tesla owners complained about this on online forums.

Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat New Facelift Previewed

Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat New Facelift PreviewedDodge plans a makeover on its Challenger line-up for the 2019 year, and the alterations will include a fantastic pair of nostrils for the Hellcat.

The FCA-owned brand dubs the new part a “dual-snorkel hood.” It’s fully-functional, and is deliberately riffing off Dodge’s muscle cars from the mid-60s and early 70s, albeit providing a “modern interpretation that looks even more sinister and provides maximum air intake to the supercharged powerplant.”
